Week 2 post

I was surprised by the readings this last week. Chapter one in our text book and the CD read. Both gravitated around gaming a lot (a subject I really like but didn’t expect to find it in an English class.). Well a lot of it for me was review. I’ve known about many of the web basics listed in both readings for some time now, but I can see why an introduction like that is needed. Those who haven’t grown up with computers all their life and those who are just beginning need this info on links, defining multimedia, interface and so forth. One thing I found funny though was the writer’s dedication at the opening of the book to his family. It’s the first text book I’ve seen devoted to their wife.

  1. I was also (pleasantly!) surprised to see gaming talked about so much in chapter 1. But all games require a story (...generally) and it makes sense for a writer to be the one to write it.

  2. As a person who has never played a video game, I was a bit lost, though I guess it semi sparked an interest in me.

  3. Very apt observations, paul, tracie, and stef! paul, i am glad to see someone in this class who's into video games as narratives are indeed part of writing for interactive media. too bad, we will focus more on informational productions this semester; nevertheless, i think you may use some gaming references in our chapter readings to supplement your understanding of the text.. [while narrative references may certainly be skipped by those who don't have any inclination towards video games...]
